Tawow! Welcome!
We are thrilled you are considering continuing your yoga studentship with us!
This 300-hour Advanced Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology Certification adheres to the Yoga Alliance training standards and offers you a thorough understanding how honouring and uplifting the roots of yoga, through embodying Patanjali's eight limb path, can support community care. Together we will explore how trauma-informed care can empower you, and those you support, both on and off of the mat.
This teacher training is open to anyone who has previously completed a 200-Hour YTT and will support you deepening your studentship from an anti-oppressive, accessible, trauma-informed lens.
We will meet live, via Zoom, for 13 Friday workshops & 5 weekend workshop-style modules to complete your contact hours. You will also complete two self-paced courses and required home study readings, at your own pace. Each live workshop is designed to resemble a retreat-like format. Togehter we will co-create an environment to support learning, and most importantly, unlearning, in community.
From a nurturing attachment-based approach, you will be invited to experience all practices and teachings for yourself, with the intention of empowering you as a helping professional and yoga facilitator. With trauma being a sensitive topic, each student is required to complete an application for enrollment with special attention on how you will support yourself, mind-body-spirit-heart, throughout the training.

Dr. Melissa Jay is an Indigenous, Nehiyaw-Métis member of the Métis Nation of Alberta. Canmore Counselling is located Châ Ûpchîchîyen Kudebi (translated from Îyârhe Nakoda as “shooting at the willows”), colonially known as Canmore. The physical location of Canmore Counselling & the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology is in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, which is considered Treaty 7 land and home of Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III, and the traditional territory of the Îyârhe Nakoda, including the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations. As an act of reconciliation and commitment to decolonization, we are committed to the TRC's Calls to Action.
At Canmore Counselling, we are also privileged to be yoga students, practitioners, and guides. Our offerings centre on the root of yoga as Indigenous to South Asia, and we are grateful to learn from and amplify the South Asian practitioners and teachers whenever possible. We are grateful for the eight limbs of yoga, as taught by Patanjali. It is a joy to walk alongside our incredible alumni of the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School as they create opportunities for care, connection & curiosity within their communities.
We believe wholeheartedly that community, social justice, decolonization, anti-oppression, and anti-racism are inherent to trauma-informed care. Thank you for being here.
