Tawow! Welcome!

The intention of the Yoga Kids & Teens Teacher Training is to invite helping professionals and certified yoga teachers to learn ways to integrate trauma-informed yoga psychology into their work with kids and teens. This foundational yoga for kids & teens teacher is accredited through Yoga Alliance and adheres to the training standards. The faculty is dedicated to offering teachings on the eight limbs of yoga and how to offer kids and teens fun and meaningful opportunities to integrate practices into their lives, on and off their mats.

Students will complete 30-hours of self-paced study led by Dr. Melissa Jay and attend 3 weekend modules with Melissa Jay, Michael, Carolyn, and Alex, to complete 95-hours training hours. This training is experiential in nature and will invite students to experience all practices and teachings for themselves with the intention of deepening their ability to walk their talk, as yoga teachers for kids and teens. Each weekend module will be designed to resemble a retreat-like format so that each student can feel nurtured and, in turn, nurture each other within the group practice, discussions, and practicum components.

Our school provides opportunities for self-reflection as a means of enhancing self-awareness. Each student will be required to complete an application for enrollment and create a plan to ensure mind-body-spirit-heart support throughout the training.

Please note that the Yoga Alliance Standards for Registered Yoga Schools do not include any instruction in yoga therapy techniques or other methods of diagnosing or treating mental health.

☆   Students will deepen their understanding of Yoga History, and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, with the intention of honouring, rather than appropriating, the practice of yoga with kids and teens.
☆   Students will gain a thorough understanding of the eight limbs of yoga and how to offer kids and teens fun and meaningful opportunities to integrate the practices into their lives, on and off their mats.
☆   Students will experience all practices and teachings, as both participants and facilitators, with the intention of learning how to practice emotional regulation and self-compassion and how to teach kids and teens to do the same.
☆   Students will deepen their understanding of how functional physical and energetic anatomy can promote positive and developmentally appropriate yoga experiences for kids and teens

Tân'si, Hello!
Be who you needed when you were younger. This message guides me.
As an Indigenous, Nehiyaw member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, it is a joy to walk alongside incredible souls who are dedicated to self-awareness & community care. My daily eight limb yoga practice support me in allowing truth (satya) to flow and deepen my lifelong yoga studentship. I honour my ᓀᐦᐃᔭᐍ Nehiyawe (Cree) culture, by learning to speak Nehiyawe, sitting with Elders/Knowledge Keepers, and decolonizing myself by infusing spirit into everything.
Much of my career has been dedicated to supporting kids, teens, & families in finding ways to enhance their relationships. Kids & Teens are our future, so when you have an opportunity to walk alongside them or practice yoga with them, do it! From a nurturing attachment-based approach, we will explore how to integrate yoga and psychology, on and off the mat. As a psychologist & assistant professor, I have the privilege of destigmatizing mental health through offering accessible yoga, workshops, & contributing to academic literature/research #nerdalert
Looking forward to learning and most importantly, unlearning, with you... when the time is right!
With goodness,
Dr. Melissa Jay (she/her)
