A Greeting from Kristin
Registered Social Worker. Independent Contractor. Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher.
Hello, I'm Kristin!
"Vulnerability is not weakness, it is our most accurate measure of courage." ~Brene Brown
Choosing to start counselling is an important step towards making change. This change could be internal, such as shifting our own patterns of thinking or feeling, or external such as adapting our ways of being, with ourself or in relationships. Often it is hard to describe the kind of change we are seeking, we just know things can't continue as they are. That feeling of vulnerability that comes with uncertainty is common, and part of my role as a counsellor is to assist you in exploring and defining your needs as they evolve.
I'm here to help you navigate change. This occurs through a conversational process of questioning, exploring and noticing what arises together. We will pay careful attention to the innate wisdom of the body's nervous system, cultivating a deeper connection to the signs and signals the body gives us when we are under stress. These steps will be taken with gentle curiosity, kindness and self-compassion.Through this process my intention is to help you feel heard, to recognize your own growing edges, and above all to become empowered to make choices that attend to your unique needs.
I have lived and worked in the Bow Valley since 2013, offering individual, family, and group therapy as well as building capacity with employers and organizations to enhance workplace wellness. I graduated from the Master's of Social Work program at the University of Calgary with a clinical specialization in 2009 and recently completed a Trauma Informed Yoga Psychology Teacher Training program. I am registered with and abide by the code of ethics and standards of practice set by my regulating body, The Alberta College of Social Workers. I am a recognized health provider with Alberta Blue Cross.
As with everything, timing matters. I am available to connect when the timing is right for you. If you'd like to book a session outside of my regular online availability, please email me at kristin@canmorecounselling.com to explore alternative times.
Warmly,
Kristin
