Are you ready to deepen your yoga studentship from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, decolonial & accessible lens?
At Canmore Counselling & Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School our trainings are grounded in: decolonization, anti-oppression, social justice, and anti-racism, as these concepts are inherent to trauma-informed care. We emphasize community as essential to healing and self-care as a necessary and practical approach to sustaining ourselves so we can care for others. Our trainings are grounded in Patanjali's Eight Limb Path, designed to foster a deep understanding of yoga ancient roots, beyond physical postures.
Together we will explore meaningful ways to share practices to support pregnancy and parenthood, on and off the mat.
We are excited to learn with & from you!
We have included lots of information below.

Tawow! Welcome!
The intention for our Prenatal certification is to invite helping professionals and registered yoga teachers to learn ways to integrate yoga as a support for people during pregnancy and beyond. This foundational prenatal certification training will adhere to the Yoga Alliance training standards while also offering students a thorough understanding of how practicing the eight limbs of yoga can deepen our ability to meet the needs of the people we support on and off of the yoga mat. This certification training is open to anyone interested in deepening their practice!
Students will complete a self-paced course, led by Dr. Melissa Jay, required readings, and attend two weekend modules to complete 85-hours of contact hours. Each weekend module will be designed to resemble a retreat-like format so that each student can feel nurtured and, in turn, nurture each other within the group practice, discussions, and practicum components. From a nurturing attachment-based approach, you will be invited to experience all practices and teachings for yourself, with the intention of empowering you as a helping professional and yoga facilitator.
Our 85-hour Prenatal training centres on Patanjali's eight limbs of yoga, integrating the principles of asana (physical postures), pranayama (breath control), pratyahara (withdrawal of senses), dharana (concentration), dhyana (meditation), and samadhi (absorption). This comprehensive approach ensures that our graduates are well-equipped to guide yoga in a way that honours its rich traditions and holistic benefits.
While students will learn yoga and meditation techniques as a form of self-care for us and the people we guide, and practice with. Students of Canmore Counselling will not learn to utilize yoga as a treatment for mental health concerns. Also, specific to this prenatal certification training, students will learn to guide people to seek the advice of their health care provider with any health-related or pregnancy-related issues surrounding pregnancy, labor and delivery, or before starting any pregnancy-related programs.
Students will learn to bring prenatal yoga into their scope of practice. Our school is dedicated to providing opportunities for self-reflection as a means of enhancing self-awareness. With trauma being a sensitive topic, each student is required to complete an application for enrollment with special attention on how you plan to support yourself, mind-body-spirit-heart, throughout the training.

Dr. Melissa Jay is an Indigenous, Nehiyaw-Métis member of the Métis Nation of Alberta. Canmore Counselling is located Châ Ûpchîchîyen Kudebi (translated from Îyârhe Nakoda as “shooting at the willows”), colonially known as Canmore. The physical location of Canmore Counselling & the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology is in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, which is considered Treaty 7 land and home of Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III, and the traditional territory of the Îyârhe Nakoda, including the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations. As an act of reconciliation and commitment to decolonization, we are committed to the TRC's Calls to Action.
At Canmore Counselling, we are also privileged to be yoga students, practitioners, and guides. Our offerings centre on the root of yoga as Indigenous to South Asia, and we are grateful to learn from and amplify the South Asian practitioners and teachers whenever possible. We are grateful for the eight limbs of yoga, as taught by Patanjali. It is a joy to walk alongside our incredible alumni of the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School as they create opportunities for care, connection & curiosity within their communities.
We believe wholeheartedly that community, social justice, decolonization, anti-oppression, and anti-racism are inherent to trauma-informed care. Thank you for being here.
