Students will build on these teachings throughout the program.

Introduction of Program Frameworks & Guiding Philosophies
- Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga: Detailed exploration of ethical guidelines (Yamas and Niyamas), physical postures (Asana), breath control (Pranayama), withdrawal of senses (Pratyahara), concentration (Dharana), meditation (Dhyana), and enlightenment (Samadhi) within the context of pre and post-natal care.
- Chakra System: Covers the seven chakras - Muladhara (Root Chakra), Svadhisthana (Sacral Chakra), Manipura (Solar Plexus Chakra), Anahata (Heart Chakra), Vishuddha (Throat Chakra), Ajna (Third Eye Chakra), and Sahasrara (Crown Chakra), and their relevance in supporting pregnant and postpartum clients.
- Panchamaya Koshas: Integration of the five layers of human existence - Annamaya Kosha (Physical Body), Pranamaya Kosha (Energy Body), Manomaya Kosha (Mental Body), Vijnanamaya Kosha (Wisdom Body), and Anandamaya Kosha (Bliss Body) into the therapeutic process for holistic care.

- Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology, On & Off the Mat: Integration of trauma-informed principles with yoga therapy to create safe and supportive environments for pregnant and postpartum clients.
- Trauma-Informed Eight Limb Practices: Applying Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga with a trauma-informed approach to support the unique needs of pre and post-natal clients.
- Embodiment Activities: Practical exercises and activities designed to support physical and emotional well-being during pregnancy and postpartum.
- Attachment Across the Lifespan: Understanding the impact of attachment theory on pre and post-natal care.
- Pelvic Health: Techniques and practices to support pelvic health throughout pregnancy and postpartum stages.

Dr. Melissa Jay is an Indigenous, Nehiyaw-Métis member of the Métis Nation of Alberta.
