A Greeting from Kelsey (she/her)
Canadian Certified Counsellor.
Kelsey offers virtual sessions, for all Alberta residents & in-person sessions in Canmore, upon request.
Hi, I’m Kelsey!
I practice from the understanding that humans consistently make sense of their lives by taking in information from their environment and respond in ways that align with their current strengths, thoughts, emotions, and patterns of behaviour. However, oftentimes a body-mind disconnection can lead to a forgetting of oneself, creating feelings or thoughts of being isolated, alone, or stuck. I strive to support others recognize, remember, and realize their inner wisdom, while empowering them to determine the possible influence of external factors including relationships, power dynamics, and societal systems. I have a Master of Counselling Psychology degree and an undergraduate degree in Education. My education, integrated with life experience and pursuits as both a yoga teacher and practitioner, ignites my passion for working with others in a supportive, nourishing way that helps them realize their full potential. I ground my counselling practice with trauma-informed values, while working within an attachment-based perspective and evidence-based therapies. I work with pre-teens, teens, and adults. Every individual is unique, and your experience is valid and an essential part of who you are. Your story of where you have been is an inherent, important part of your journey, and yet your story is allowed to change alongside your evolution, development, and changing wants and needs. I trust that although suffering is part of the human experience, we can work collaboratively to lessen the pain that the suffering may be causing in our lives. By cultivating connection and acceptance we can alter our perceptions and live life courageously and with more contentment and ease. It is through this sense of autonomy over our lives that we can connect with others through relationships, and to the greater community in which we live. Under the umbrella of trauma-informed care, I deeply value: safety, trustworthiness; choice; collaboration; empowerment, and non-judgment. I endeavour to bring these qualities into each session with clients. In sessions, I may use cognitive behaviour therapies, internal family systems, emotionaly-focused therapy, breathwork, somatics and narrative therapy. I am also trained in EMDR. I look forward to connecting with you. Warmly, Kelsey |

Dr. Melissa Jay is an Indigenous, Nehiyaw-Métis member of the Métis Nation of Alberta. Canmore Counselling is located Châ Ûpchîchîyen Kudebi (translated from Îyârhe Nakoda as “shooting at the willows”), colonially known as Canmore. The physical location of Canmore Counselling & the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology is in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, which is considered Treaty 7 land and home of Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III, and the traditional territory of the Îyârhe Nakoda, including the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations. As an act of reconciliation and commitment to decolonization, we are committed to the TRC's Calls to Action.
At Canmore Counselling, we are also privileged to be yoga students, practitioners, and guides. Our offerings centre on the root of yoga as Indigenous to South Asia, and we are grateful to learn from and amplify the South Asian practitioners and teachers whenever possible. We are grateful for the eight limbs of yoga, as taught by Patanjali. It is a joy to walk alongside our incredible alumni of the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School as they create opportunities for care, connection & curiosity within their communities.
We believe wholeheartedly that community, social justice, decolonization, anti-oppression, and anti-racism are inherent to trauma-informed care. Thank you for being here.
