A Greeting from Michelle (she/her)
Student Counsellor supervised by Drs. Melissa Jay & Amelie Dube.
Master of Counselling Student at Yorkville University
Hi, I’m Michelle,
I am a dog mom, a life-long student, and an eternal nature-based explorer. Over the last 9-years, I have worked in the Bow Valley as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist and an Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) practitioner, working with adults and children to help people overcome and manage symptoms of anxiety, stress, PTSD, and depression, and various other challenges people face, such as trauma, substance abuse, addictions, anger management, burnout, and performance related blocks. To develop my skills and abilities as a counsellor, I am in the process of completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. This program requires me to complete a practicum component to enhance my skills and knowledge. I will be using this opportunity to offer my services at a reduced rate to increase people's accessibility to counselling. My approach is trauma-informed and people-centred. I acknowledge historical and ongoing injustices and disparities within the healthcare system, and am working to decolonize my practice. Together, we can make a plan to find the right fit for you. When we meet, you will be invited to share your name, pronouns, and anything you would like me to know about you. I do not assume gender, sexuality, or relationship status. I commit to alleviating people the burden of educating in session, especially those who hold identities that have been historically marginalized. I am committed to my own ongoing learning, supervision, and anti-oppressive training. I offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation if you would like to find out more, and to make sure my approach is right for you. Alternatively, you can book an in-person or virtual appointment through the booking system, and any questions can be emailed to me on [email protected], or you can call me on (403) 707-5589 if you would like more information before booking. I look forward to sharing this journey of self-discovery with you. All the best, Michelle |

Dr. Melissa Jay is an Indigenous, Nehiyaw-Métis member of the Métis Nation of Alberta. Canmore Counselling is located Châ Ûpchîchîyen Kudebi (translated from Îyârhe Nakoda as “shooting at the willows”), colonially known as Canmore. The physical location of Canmore Counselling & the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology is in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, which is considered Treaty 7 land and home of Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III, and the traditional territory of the Îyârhe Nakoda, including the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations. As an act of reconciliation and commitment to decolonization, we are committed to the TRC's Calls to Action.
At Canmore Counselling, we are also privileged to be yoga students, practitioners, and guides. Our offerings centre on the root of yoga as Indigenous to South Asia, and we are grateful to learn from and amplify the South Asian practitioners and teachers whenever possible. We are grateful for the eight limbs of yoga, as taught by Patanjali. It is a joy to walk alongside our incredible alumni of the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School as they create opportunities for care, connection & curiosity within their communities.
We believe wholeheartedly that community, social justice, decolonization, anti-oppression, and anti-racism are inherent to trauma-informed care. Thank you for being here.
