A Greeting from Rachel (she/her)
Canadian Certified Counsellor.
Rachel offers virtual sessions, for all Alberta residents & in-person sessions in Calgary.
I am passionate about healing and doing the work necessary to step into the innate power that lies within us all. I believe healing is a life-long journey; one we continually embark on the more self-work we choose to do. My passion is walking with people to support them on their healing journey and aid them in stepping into their power. I believe in supporting people to find the strength to advocate for themselves. Yoga has been an integral part of my own healing and I integrate yogic philosophy, mindfulness, and breathwork often into my sessions.
I have always created artwork, and in doing so found a great deal of release, healing, and connection to myself. I love the feeling of creating a work of art as for me creating art is a sharing of my soul. I have learned so much about myself through art-making and I am excited to share the healing power of creating art with those who feel called to art making as healing. I integrate aspects of DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Theory), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Theory), with a Solution Focused and Person Centered approach. I work with children 5+ and provide support for those with ADHD, FASD, ASD, NPD (families and partners), anxiety, depression, chronic pain and trauma. I am passionate about supporting those with a diagnosis of ADHD, FASD, or ASD in understanding how their brain works and providing them with the necessary tools to advocate for themselves. I provide support for families through communication and attachment coaching. |

Dr. Melissa Jay is an Indigenous, Nehiyaw-Métis member of the Métis Nation of Alberta. Canmore Counselling is located Châ Ûpchîchîyen Kudebi (translated from Îyârhe Nakoda as “shooting at the willows”), colonially known as Canmore. The physical location of Canmore Counselling & the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology is in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, which is considered Treaty 7 land and home of Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III, and the traditional territory of the Îyârhe Nakoda, including the Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley First Nations, as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai First Nations. As an act of reconciliation and commitment to decolonization, we are committed to the TRC's Calls to Action.
At Canmore Counselling, we are also privileged to be yoga students, practitioners, and guides. Our offerings centre on the root of yoga as Indigenous to South Asia, and we are grateful to learn from and amplify the South Asian practitioners and teachers whenever possible. We are grateful for the eight limbs of yoga, as taught by Patanjali. It is a joy to walk alongside our incredible alumni of the Trauma-Informed Yoga Psychology School as they create opportunities for care, connection & curiosity within their communities.
We believe wholeheartedly that community, social justice, decolonization, anti-oppression, and anti-racism are inherent to trauma-informed care. Thank you for being here.
